does your car horn have to work in order to get an alarm installed?
the horn on my car doesn't work properly, so I was wondering can I still get a car alarm installed?

- yes it does !! if some one breaks into your car how would you know if the alarm has no place to release the noise !!!
- Not at all. Although some, (most now a days) use the horn on your car for sound.. that being said, there are lots of car alarms that use their own "speaker".
- No. The installation comes with it's own horn, unless you put in a real cheap one. You really should have your horn seen to for safety concerns.
- Usually, aftermarket alarm system will have a seperate speaker. I see them all the time at work. There are some that do tie into the horn wiring though. I would personally have the horn problem fixed before an alarm system installed. The horn is a safty issue. In inspections, a vehicle will fail automatically, if it does not have a fully operational horn.
- I don't think it matters if the horn works or not for an alarm system as the install a speaker to sound the alarm ..But where I live it is part of the safety inspection done on vehicles to have a working horn .. this is your way of warning people in certain situations .. you can't just stick your head out the window and yell .. and they may not see your finger being raised in an unfriendly manner .. It is possible some alarm systems use the horn of your car instead of the speaker .. Factory alarms do this .. so it will all depend on the alarm you buy .. and I'm sure the who ever installs it will know this .. Probably there is dirt in your horn or even if it is bad you can get a replacement at any auto wrecker or parts supply store .. they are not expensive .. it could also be the horn relay .. but .. you should consider getting it repaired or replaced anyway just for the safety issues ..
