What frequency will a person standing beside the road hear if a car horn is blown?

A car horn with a frequency of 250 Hz. What frequency will a person standing beside the Road hear if the horn is blown while the car is traveling toward him at 65 mi/hr? Assume 0 degrees C.

  1. A car horn has many frequencies so you really couldn't tell the exact movement. It would go down though becuase of the dopplar effect.
  2. look up the speed of sound at 0C and plug it into the following equation: doppler Δf = –v/λ = –vf/s v = velocity of source relative to listener λ = wavelength of source, relative to source f = frequency of source, relative to source s = 343 m/s = speed of sound .
