Anyone know why my car horn honks when i open the car door with the engine running?
da horn blows briefly like an alarm was being engaged. sometimes my car also does this wen the car is off. in this case all the doors lock up and tail and headlights flash. I dont have any key remote an i dont see any alarm horn under the hood so im lost cuz although it isnt a big problem i dont like to announce my arrival to everyone. the car is a 2002 chevy malibu

- If it's a 2002...it probably had a key remote at some point...and the alarm is being engaged/disengaged by the locking system instead of the remote, now. So...just watch how you get in & out of the car...and how you lock it. If your locks auto-unlock when you pull the handle to get out of the car...then unlock them manually before you open the door. When you get out of the car, lock it from the outside, and then unlock it from the outside when you go to get back in. I have had a couple of vehicles that did not have key remotes by the time they were mine and they have had these issues.
- Someone had to put an alarm on that car ,for as i know they didn't come from the factory with a alarm on them. Take a good like under the dash board on the drivers side to see if you might see the alarm box & wires that's were they usually put them at.
