12 Volt car horn into a 110 household outlet?
O.k. I want to hook up a car type horn to my tiki bar outside,I really have no idea on how to do this.My guess is that i would need to convert it somehow to a 110 plug and somehow add a button to honk it? Anyone have an idea of how to do this??? Thanks...

- buy 'truck' type horn that uses compressed air rather than electricity
- Go to Radio Shack and buy a 12 volt converter. It will convert 110 volts down to 12 volts
- you`ll need a transformer to reduce the 110v to 12 v
- 12V transformers that plug into 110 aren't hard to find and you should be able to get one at radio shack. Worst case is you can use a battery charger. They take 110V and put out 12V and are really nothing more than a step down transformer and a rectifier circuit.
- to start car battery is dc current house is ac current a transformer will handle the task of convert voltage 110 to 12 volt but you still need then to go from 12vt ac to 12 v dc this requires a rectifier a simpler alternative is go to radio shack and get an qadapter 110 to 12vdc and connect it do not cut plug off end of adapter because its quite likely the rectifier is in the plug
- If you have any old plug ins to an older cordless phone or maybe a charger of some sort. You can read the voltage out put on the plug. Find one that is a 12 v or close, which is DC current, and splice the wires on the horn. These black square plug ins convert AC to DC at a lover volt. It works. Add a button for a switch, witch will open & close the circuit.
- Go by autozone or advance auto and buy a 10 amp, 12 volt battery charger and a universal horn button. The sales associate can help you with information on how to wire it up! Hope this helps! They also have horns in stock too! One stop shopping.
- You can get a 110V to 12V converter from Radioshack. you will get a black (negative) and a red (positive) from the converter. Wire the black to the ground/negative of the horn and the red to a button and other side of the button to the positive lead on the horn. Here is a link to a suitable AC/DC adapter from radioshack: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2361992&cp=&sr=1&origkw=DC+power+supply&kw=dc+power+supply&parentPage=search
- 12 volt transformer.its just like your doorbell. the transformer for your doorbell may be the 12 volts you need. some car horns have 2 plugs( power in and off to a button connecting to ground wire. 1 prong horns you need to ground the horn and run power through the button. aauuuuugaa!
- use some charger with 110v input, 12v DC output, but current rating same or more than horn's current rating. make sure correct (+ , - ) connection. Enjoy!
- 110 to 12volts called an inverter
- you need to get a transformer from a old TV
