Air Horns

What would cause my car's horn to sound like it is dying?

I was in an accident in December - all front body damage. The car was fixed and everything has been great (I am not sure if this means anything at all). But over the last week my horn and car alarm has been getting weaker and weaker!!!! It does not matter if I honk the horn, press the keyless entry lock, or the alarm goes off - the sound is weaker and weaker each day!!! What could be causing this????? Should I call the body shop or the dealer (the car is only 2 years old)????? Thanks!!!!

  1. Assuming that your electrical charging system is operating normally, I would check to see if there is any foreign material inside the horns. If there debris free. You test each horn for volume with an independent 12 volt car battery. If they produce the same sound as in your vehicle, the horns have reached the end of their working cycle & need to be replaced.
  2. uh.. maybe there is a wire that is being pinched some how. or maybe a wire is dealing with the horn is touching something else that is making it act weird. good luck cuz i know how fun cars can be. i would call the dealer.. im assuming the car has warranty? i think that it would be kind of late to call the body shop
  3. Sounds like the diaphragm within the horn is tearing away. It will need to be replaced. The good news is a replacement electric horn is fairly inexpensive. (unless bought directly from the dealer)
  4. It sounds like the horn relay is going out. They used to be under the hood but you can check to see where and how to change them online by googling it. You should be able to have someone change it for a beer or two. Simple fix, fortunately.
  5. Dealer Do you plan a "burial or cremation" for your horn? ROFLMAO :P
  6. Have you checked your battery??
  7. Could be a loss or shortage in the wiring or bad earth when the repairs were done. I think some has written about the actual horns and stuff so I let that go. Check the fuses also.
