the value of a pair of original BR Class 55 Deltic locomotive horns?
I have a pair of these horns on my semi truck here in the usa, they sound great, but im thinking of selling them on ebay, and i was just wondering what they might be worth at auction. they are in perfect working order, cleaned and adjusted too.

- quite a lot i would think try contacting a specialist dealer in railway memorabilia.
- I assume you have provenance for the horns - i.e. you can prove they are genuine Deltic horns and not a facsimile. I would suggest you contact these people; _ http://www.sheffieldrailwayana.co.uk/ who are one of the leading auction houses in the UK for railwayana.
- If they are genuine you are looking at quite a lot of cash. I couldn't say for certain but probably 4 figures. Get them valued by an expert in railway memorabilia.
- They're probably worth about £70 here in the UK. The problem with so called "Deltic" horns is that to prove that these horns were carried by a Deltic would be nearly impossible. No one except for British Rail ever cut up a Deltic, so for a start, you'd need some sort of paperwork from British Rail (a receipt or scrap note) etc, Another thing to take into consideration, that apart from replacement due to accidental damage, in theory, there are only 88 genuine deltic horns in existence (22 loco's, 4 per loco). 28 of these are obviously on the preserved Deltics (7 off), and 4 are on cab sections, which leaves 56 horns "else where" The major issue regarding originality is that the all of the BR built southern region EMU's (100s of them), had the same horn fitted, as did the BR built Class 73's, which would make up over 2100+ horns of this type. So without some massive proof, such as a loco number stamped on them, or, as mentioned above, some sort of official paperwork to quantify you claim, to prove these really are "Deltic Horns" would be very difficult.
